Join us for our Sixth Form open evening on the 5th of November. All are welcome!
As your child heads towards the start of their journey at Idsall School it is a great time to consider the place of instrumental music in their learning. Scientific research has proven time and again that instrumentalists develop students’ confidence more quickly and that they fare better when it comes to taking exams in all areas of the curriculum. The need for self-discipline required in the development of instrumental / vocal skills helps students to understand the learning process and because much of the discovery is independent, they are better placed to take responsibility for their own development.
Learning to play an instrument is fun, sociable and through participation in extra-curricular ensembles and concerts often leads to the development of strong friendships based on shared and unforgettable experiences. It is a creative journey. You begin to appreciate the importance of personality in expressing music as you become more skilled.
We offer instrumental lessons for students wishing to continue learning or for those who would like to start learning to play an instrument. Our professional visiting teachers cover the following range of instruments: strings / woodwind / brass / percussion (including drum kit)/guitar/keyboard/piano/singing. Lessons operate on rotating timetables to avoid students missing the same part of a lesson each week. Lessons are normally paid for one term in advance. The price of instrumental lessons varies from teacher to teacher but the average rate is £10 for a 20 minute lesson. We are also looking to start offering group lessons for £3.
