Reading School

At Idsall, we see reading as a privilege and a pleasure. Our school day is built around the idea that reading is a subject in itself, and one which we all study at school at beyond. All staff and all students at the school are teachers of literacy and we embody the idea that reading is not only a key skill, but something that is enjoyable and a privilege.

Within the school day, every student has the opportunity to enjoy our ‘reading sessions’ just before lunch, where they can read their own book in a quiet, comfortable environment and have time to wind down before the final lesson of the day. Studies have shown that reading a literary work for a minimum of six minutes can reduce stress and improve productivity. Our students reflect that ideal, as they continue to strive for academic excellence across their time here.
