Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3 Product Design

In Key Stage 3, all students rotate each term to improve their knowledge and skills in Product Design, Textiles and Food Technology.

Topics Covered per Year 

Year 7 Year 8 Year 9
  • Introduction to Workshop 
  • Learn a range of woodworking skills
  • Know how to use machinery safely
  • Be able to use CAD software
  • Be able to use CAM machines
  • Be able to sketch using Isometric, and apply colour using rendering
  • Designers and Design Movements

  • Be confident in the use of 2D Design Tools
  • Be able to use CAM machines
  • Develop knowledge of types of plastics
  • Understanding how design is closely linked to sustainability

 Key Stage 3 Textiles

In Textiles, students are taught about the versatility of fabrics, and learn about modern e-textiles. They will become confident in stitching by hand and using sewing machines, as well as being able to use dye sublimation to print on fabrics, and laser cutting. Students are encouraged to be experimental in their textile work.

  • Manufacture a product in the workshop

Mascots 

  • Designing textile mascots for the Olympic Games. Students will learn how to use sewing machines and decorative textile techniques to produce their mascots. 

Electronic wristband

  • Student will design and construct electronic wristbands that can be worn at a chosen music festival or concert. Students will be introduced to using Adobe Photoshop to design their wristbands and be able to produce their fabrics through dye sublimation. 

iPads

  • Students will design and construct ipad covers. They will build on their Photoshop skills to create repeat patterns to print onto their iPad covers.

  • Health and Safety, Washing up, Knife Skills, Rubbing in Method, Creaming Method, Melting Method, Hob, Oven, Grill.

  • Fruit Salad, Flapjacks, Pasta Salad, Sponge Cakes, Pitta Pizza, Savoury Scones, Sweet Scones.
  • Health and Safety, Knife Skills, Kneading, Rolling, Shaping, Oven, Hob, Seasoning, Handling raw meat.

  • Bread, Pizza Dough, Pizza Toppings, Sweet Muffins, Savoury Muffins, Burgers, Biscuits

 

 

 

  • Health and Safety, Knife Skills, Hob, Grill, Oven, Whisking, Piping, Separating Eggs, High Risk foods, Making pastry, Chemical reactions.

  • Macaroni Cheese with roux sauce, Brownies, Swiss roll with piped decoration, Chicken Curry, Meringues, Cheese and Onion Pasty, Honeycomb.
