Advice for Parents
To support your child to begin their Career journey please help them to look through the careers programmes outlined on the students pages.
The National Careers Service also provides information, advice and guidance to help you make decisions on learning, training and work opportunities. The service offers confidential and impartial advice. This is supported by qualified careers advisers: https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk
To understand the different types of qualification and what grades are a good fit for the types of courses to look for, you can visit the government website which outlines the different levels of qualification and compares Academic and Vocational courses more directly by clicking this link, https://www.gov.uk/what-different-qualification-levels-mean/list-of-qualification-levels
You could also look at the following websites –
You can also encourage your child to attend the Idsall Careers Fayre (date TBC) and to attend the Apprenticeship show at the International Centre in the Spring term. You could also support your child by visiting local colleges who have their open evenings during the Autumn and Spring term; at these events you will be able to speak to careers advisers who can clarify SEND provision, examination access, transport and financial arrangements to support your child in their further studies.
Aspire to HE is working with Idsall School to run a range of in-school opportunities, trips and activities. Some of these activities will be for the whole year group, and some will be just for small groups of students.
Activities they may be part of include:
• Trips to local universities, or visiting local employers
• Hands-on Science Workshops
• Study Skills Masterclasses
• Mentoring with recent graduates
• Easter revision sessions
Our hope is that by your son/daughter/ legal dependent engaging in one or more of the activities, it will help them think about their future and what they want to do after school. Further information can be found by clicking on:
