Independent Study
We want our students to be excited about and engaged in learning in lots of different contexts , both within and beyond the classroom.
Students in KS3 will receive homework from core subjects fortnightly and from all other subjects a minimum of once per half term.
Students in Key Stage 4 and 5 should expect homework to be set weekly in all subjects.
Students are expected to complete independent work that compliments what they are learning in school and rewards will be issued for those students who are actively participating in building their powerful knowledge and developing skills through home learning.
Home learning can take a variety of different methods including;
- Independent Study Menus
- Home learning projects
- Flipped Learning
- Competitions or challenges
- Revision, retrieval and recall
- Reading around the subject
For more information on these please see page 27 in the student planners
Revision
A: There are lots of ways to revise and different methods will suit different people. The most difficult thing is not the revision itself, but actually getting started. Once you start the ball rolling, it will become much easier!
There are some essential things that you need to get in place, however:
1.Plan your revision
2.Organise your work and notes
3.Set up a revision space
4.Stay motivated
5.Think positively!
A: Create a revision plan, but make sure that it includes social activities and breaks
Break down the revision into smaller ‘chunks’. Work through one section at a time
Create a visual record of how the sections are related, using a mind map or spider diagram
Mix up the subjects that you revise so that you don’t get too bored.
Don’t do more that 45 minutes’ work before taking a break.
If you want to plan your revision timetable online, try this interactive planner, which is available from the Student Room.
