Year 9 Options
How is the Choice Arranged?
Students can choose from a wide range of GCSE’s, BTEC’s and vocational NVQ’s.
We currently offer the following subjects at GCSE for students to opt into:
Religious Education, History, Geography, French, German, Applied Business Studies, ICT, Drama, Catering, Child Development, DT Textiles, DT Product Design, separate Sciences, Physical Education, Art, Music. We also offer BTEC courses in Sport, Art and Design.
In addition to this we offer courses in Construction, Motor Vehicle Engineering and Hairdressing, where students spend one day a week at local colleges, studying for NVQ level 1.
Students will be given extensive individual advice about the courses and levels that are appropriate for them and which will help them to achieve further success in education and employment. We do our best to provide the preferred combinations of subjects for all students, but for various reasons this is not always possible and the final decision about the options taken must rest with the school.
An Options Booklet is issued during Year 9 which gives full information about the courses on offer, and there are opportunities during the year for parents to discuss choices with members of staff.
