Specialist Sports College
Introduction
In short it is an educational initiative that uses sport to assist with whole school developments.
Being a sports college has excellent benefitsOur PE department is a strong team who can deliver a vast array of specialist activities and examination courses. The staff are committed to allowing and helping students to BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE. We believe we develop the whole student by giving them access to leadership opportunities in music, maths, drama, art, modern foreign languages and sport. We have appointed an extended activities co-ordinator who will begin working with our primary partner schools (FIVE altogether) and students from Idsall School’s leadership programme to attempt to help assist with and improve levels of learning in many areas. We are continuing the ‘Living for Sport’ initiative.
We have created a Gifted and Talented mentoring scheme that aims to educate our sport stars of the future in a number of areas.
We have developed excellent community links and work alongside our primary and secondary partner schools to provide or facilitate high quality learning opportunities and outcomes in Physical Education-by sharing specialist facilities and resources, enhancing further the quality of teaching and developing and disseminating good practice. Our programme of whole school extra-curricular activities (session 6 and lunch clubs) and house activities is second to none.
Festivals and fixtures occur on a weekly basis and all students have the opportunity to take part. The staff and student numbers involved in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme are again excellent.
We currently run a bi-annual sports tour where students are given the opportunity to play netball, football, tennis and participate in dance activities. |

Idsall School received Specialist Sports College status in 2001. Due to our ‘Good’ November 2008 Ofsted report we gained re-designation in February 2009.
