The school organises several visits and trips in this country and abroad.
There is a skiing trip to Europe each year organised by members of staff. The History Department has arranged tours of World War Two battlefields in France, and the Art Department has organised various trips to Paris, Italy and the United States to visit art collections. Members of the Odyssey Club have been to Italy to visit ancient Roman sites, and have travelled to Spain to explore local art and architecture and to develop their language skills. For the last three years we have run sports tours to different European countries.
Nearer home, there are regular visits to Art Galleries and to Iron Bridge. There are Geography Field Trips, and outings by the Art and Geography Departments to London. The English and Drama Departments arrange frequent visits to the theatre, and parents often join with these groups.
All trips are expensive to organise and run, and their viability is dependent upon voluntary parental contributions. Please refer to the section on the school charging policy for further details.
Year 7 pupils have the opportunity to take part in a residential course in North Wales which includes various outdoor pursuits alongside educational and environmental projects. This provides a high spot in the year in more ways than one and is always tremendous fun. As with many extra activities organised by the school, residential courses can only run if the cost is met by parents. Information about this is available early in September, and most families pay by instalments through the year.
Idsall reserves an annual block booking for the Outdoor Pursuits Centre at Arthog in North Wales. The week's activities include walking, camping, canoeing, rock climbing, and field studies in Biology and Geography. This visit is mainly for year 9 students in the period following their Key Stage 3 Tests.
