PSHE & Citizenship

Since 2001, Citizenship has been part of the core curriculum for all students. Key elements of the subject include Rights and Responsibilities, The Legal System, Voting and Elections as well as the influence of the Media.

GCSE Citizenship Studies (Short Course)

At Idsall School, students in Key Stage 4 have one Citizenship lesson per week and undertake a Short Course GCSE award in Citizenship Studies. The examination board that we use is OCR.

In Year 10, students study for Unit A342 - Identity, Democracy and Justice. The content of this unit includes the law, democratic processes and international relations. It is examined in the Summer Term of Year 10. The examination lasts for one hour.

In Year 11, students complete Unit A341 - Rights and Responsibilities: Getting Started as an Active Citizen. This is a controlled assessment task which requires students to research, plan and carry out a campaign to bring about change in the local community.

In addition, during Citizenship lessons, students will also study elements of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Careers Education.
