DofE Bronze Award Students on Initial Expedition
Successful completion by 30 of our year 9 students.
Idsall school runs the Duke of Edinburgh for the Silver and Bronze awards each year. This year we have 30 year 9 students participating on the Bronze award and 16 year 10 students on the silver award. The Bronze award commenced their training in January 2017, which included learning the country code, conditions of the D of E expedition, nutrition and calorific values to sustain you on a walking expedition, preparing and cooking meals, packing rucksacks and what equipment is required for the expedition, erecting tents, camp craft, First Aid, emergency procedures and navigation (route cards, map reading, contour interpretation and how to use a compass).
On Friday 12th May 2017 the Bronze award went on an initial expedition in Little Stretton to practice all of the above skills. This has given the students a chance to safely practice their skills in a controlled environment to develop their confidence and experience. This will be followed by one practice expedition on the 10th and 11th June 2017, and the final assessment on the 18th and 19th of July 2017.
