Year 7 Letter to Parents - Residential Activity Week in July 2018
Initial notification for parents of year 7 students regarding next summer's residential opportunity.
We are pleased to announce that the annual Residential Activity Week for Year 7 pupils has provisionally been booked. We hope that many Year 7 pupils will take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.
This year we return to Plas Caerdeon Outdoor Education Centre at Bontduu, near Barmouth. This is a lovely centre situated in its own grounds and beautiful surroundings. The views across the Mawddach Estuary to Cadair Idris are stunning. The accommodation has been recently modernised and the food is very good.
A trip of this sort presents students with a range of opportunities which we cannot provide within school itself. For instance, the activities on offer include hill-walking, archery, rock climbing, kayaking, gorge walking, beach exploration and low ropes course. We include some environmental awareness work while out on the hills and on the beach.
Looking after oneself when away from home and working as a team are valuable ‘growing-up’ experiences and students will learn to become more responsible and independent through the challenges faced at Plas Caerdeon. We also aim to have fun!
The visits will take place between Friday 13th July and Thursday 19th July 2018. This will allow for two sessions. However, there is limited availability! Each group will comprise of approximately 40 students, having a three night stay at Plas Caerdeon.
In order to run the trip we have to raise the cost of transport, board and lodging, expert tuition and hire of equipment. The cost of the trip will be between £240.00-£260.00 per place; the exact price will be confirmed at the parental meeting. I have to advise you that according to the 1996 Education Reform Act we can charge for the board and lodging costs but we can only raise the other costs by voluntary contribution. However, the trip can only go ahead if the level of support is sufficient. I am aware that this is a significant amount of money and families on low income may be able to apply for assistance through school, please indicate on the reply slip if you wish to apply for financial help.
If you would like more information about this fantastic opportunity and to air any questions that you might have about the trip, I would like to invite you to a parental briefing at Idsall School on Thursday 23rd November 2017 in the Lecture Theatre at 5.30pm. The meeting should be no longer than an hour and will give you a full insight into the trip. Please complete and return the reply slip to Mrs Rushton in the Finance Office by Monday 20th November 2017 if you wish to attend the meeting.
Once the briefing has taken place and you are happy with the proposed residential trip and you wish to take advantage of this wonderful experience for your child, please return the reply slip from this letter with a £50.00 NON REFUNDABLE deposit to Mrs Rushton in the Finance Office by Friday 12th January 2018 in order to secure a place. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Idsall School Fund’. Deposits will be accepted the morning after the trip briefing and not on the presentation evening, places are NOT allocated on a first come first served basis.
Please note that cash or cheques will not be banked before trip confirmation has taken place. Please note that it is expected for you to keep to these payment deadlines to avoid additional interest charges being incurred.
The remainder of the money must be paid by Friday 11th May 2018.
After the initial deposit and once the trip has been confirmed, all payments can be paid by the following methods:
- By Cash or Cheque to Mrs Rushton in the Finance Office. Cheques should be made payable to Idsall School Fund.
- By online payment as I am pleased to say that the school can now accept payments online. Online payments can be made via ParentPay - www.parentpay.com and it offers you the freedom to make payments whenever and wherever you like, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - safe in the knowledge that the technology used is of the highest internet security available
Please note that any cancellations that are made after any payments are forwarded to Plas Caerdeon will be subject to loss of monies unless a replacement is found.
As with any school trip, parents and students should be aware that if a student’s behaviour or attendance become unacceptable prior to departure, then the school reserves the right to exclude them from the trip and this could jeopardise any refund of monies paid to that date.
Places for this wonderful trip are unfortunately limited and if the trip is oversubscribed places will have to be allocated by drawing names out of a hat, with the remaining students going onto a waiting list.
If you have any further queries please contact me at school.
